Delete Your CostWise Account

This page explains how to request deletion of your CostWise account and all the data we hold about you in the cloud. We comply with Google Play’s data deletion policy and the requirements of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA).
1. How to Request Deletion
To delete your CostWise account, send us an email:

From: the email address you used to sign up for CostWise
Sending the request from your registered email lets us verify the request without asking for additional personal information. If you no longer have access to that email, please tell us in your message and we will guide you through identity verification.
2. What Gets Deleted
When we process your deletion request, we permanently remove the following:
- Firebase Authentication user — your email, Firebase user ID, and any sign-in credentials.
- Firestore data — all expenses, persons, categories, budgets, settings, and related records that were synced to the cloud.
- Receipt photos — any images you uploaded to Firebase Cloud Storage.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) tokens — the device tokens used to send you push notifications.
- RevenueCat customer record — the subscription entitlement record tied to your account.
3. What Is Kept (and Why)
- Subscription invoices and tax records — we are required to retain these for up to 7 years under Indian tax law (GST and Income Tax Act).
- Anonymised analytics and crash logs — these are not tied to your identity and cannot be linked back to you.
- Email correspondence — support emails you sent us are retained for up to 1 year for record-keeping, then deleted.
4. Local Data on Your Device
CostWise also stores data locally on your phone in a SQLite database. This data is not deleted by an account deletion request because we never had it in the first place — it lives only on your device.
To remove local data:
- Open CostWise → Settings → Privacy → Erase All Local Data, OR
- Uninstall the CostWise app from your device. Uninstalling automatically removes the local database and any locally cached photos.
5. How Long It Takes
We process all account deletion requests within 7 business days of receiving them. You will receive a confirmation email once the deletion is complete.
If your request requires additional verification, we may take a few extra days, but we will keep you updated.
6. Cancel Your Subscription First
If you have an active CostWise Premium subscription, please cancel it through Google Play before requesting deletion, otherwise Google may continue to bill you. To cancel:
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
- Tap CostWise → Cancel subscription.
Refunds are governed by the Google Play refund policy. Softwaller cannot directly refund Google Play purchases.
